BEIJING - Xiaomi Corp. on Monday began selling the Pad 9 and Pad 9 Pro in China, expanding its tablet lineup a week after the larger Pad 9 Pro Max debut with matched 3.2K, 144Hz LCD panels, Snapdragon silicon and batteries large enough to pitch the devices as all-day work tablets rather than video-only slates.

Both models use a 3,200-by-2,136 LCD with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 12-bit color, DCI-P3 coverage and support for HDR10, HDR Vivid and Dolby Vision, according to Xiaomi’s China launch materials. Eye-comfort certifications listed for the pair include Circadian Friendly, Flicker-Free and hardware-level low blue light, plus wet-touch response. The Pad 9 Pro carries a 12.5-inch panel peaking at about 1,000 nits; the standard Pad 9 uses an 11.2-inch panel peaking at about 800 nits.

Under the glass, the Pro runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, an octa-core 3-nanometer chip clocked up to 3.8GHz with an Adreno GPU. The Pad 9 uses Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 - the same class of silicon Xiaomi already shipped on the Pad 8 - so the base model’s performance jump is narrower. Neither tablet uses Xiaomi’s XRING O3 chipset from the Pro Max. Battery capacity is 11,000 milliamp-hours with 67-watt wired charging on the Pro and 9,720 milliamp-hours with 45-watt charging on the Pad 9; the Pro also lists 22.5-watt reverse charging.

Cameras and memory split along the same lines. The Pro pairs a 50-megapixel rear camera capable of 4K video with a 32-megapixel front camera; the Pad 9 steps down to 13-megapixel and 8-megapixel sensors capped at 1080p. Software includes WPS for Pad, CapCut Pro and support for Xiaomi’s magnetic pen and floating keyboard. Configurations run from 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage up to 16GB and 256GB on the Pro and 12GB and 256GB on the Pad 9, with UFS 4.1 storage on the top tiers.

China pricing starts at 2,999 yuan (about $450) for the Pad 9 and 3,799 yuan (about $570) for the Pad 9 Pro, rising to 4,999 yuan (about $750) for the Pro’s 16GB and 256GB soft-light option. Colorways include Silver, Spruce Green and Black on both, with Ice Peach Pink on the Pad 9. Xiaomi has not announced global availability. For a company that already framed last week’s Pro Max as a desktop-class tablet, Monday’s quieter Pad 9 and Pad 9 Pro drop fills out the mid-size shelf with high-refresh screens and long-running batteries aimed at China’s laptop-adjacent tablet market.
