SEOUL - iQOO said Monday that its forthcoming iQOO 16 will be the world’s first smartphone with a 2K display running at 165Hz, unveiling the panel at a Samsung Display joint technology session in South Korea and putting the vivo performance sub-brand’s gaming pitch on a new high-refresh screen.
The panel uses Samsung’s 2K LEAD 2.0 technology, co-developed with iQOO, and Samsung’s M16 luminescent material - making the iQOO 16 the first Android phone to ship that stack, according to the companies. A GlobeNewswire release tied to the session said Apple, Samsung and iQOO now form a three-way competitive set for phones using Samsung’s latest flagship light-emitting materials, with iPhone Duo among 2026 products on M16 and 2K LEAD 2.0.
Brightness claims include 1,100 nits of manual peak, 2,800 nits global peak and up to 10,000 nits local peak. iQOO also cited 1.24 times DCI-P3 gamut coverage, screen-by-screen calibration, color uniformity improved 39.6 percent and brightness uniformity up 22.3 percent versus its prior generation, plus a color accuracy figure of ±0.001 that independent labs have not yet verified. Touch hardware is rated for 5,000Hz instantaneous sampling and 500Hz multi-finger sampling, with iQOO’s Q-flex control aimed at cutting input lag for games. Other listed features include full-brightness DC dimming, PWM dimming up to 3,300Hz, three-photosensitive full-area light sensing and a gaming glare-protection mode.
Design stills released last week show a holographic “Chasing Light” rear finish, a spacecraft-inspired triple-camera island and flat metal sides; Track and Legend colorways are also planned. Spec expectations circulating ahead of a late-September China launch include a ~6.85-inch panel, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro silicon, a dedicated Q4 gaming chip, an ~8,400mAh battery and a triple 50-megapixel rear camera set - details iQOO has not fully locked in the display briefing. For a brand that sells on frame rate and feel, Monday’s Seoul event made the screen the product.
