Two Chips, One Back Screen: Xiaomi 18 Pro Series Debuts Dual Snapdragon Gen 6 Flagships in Beijing

Xiaomi launches the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in Beijing with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Extreme Gen 6, a rear AI screen, and Leica 200MP cameras.

BEIJING - Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing hosted the company’s autumn launch at 7 p.m. Beijing time on Sept. 23, putting the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max on stage as the brand’s dual-size imaging flagships and the first phones Xiaomi says will ship Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 family.

At Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit a day earlier, Xiaomi International president Zeng Xuezhong said the 18 Pro takes the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 while the 18 Pro Max steps up to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both chips use a 2-nanometer process. Some China-language launch coverage also brands the Pro Max silicon as Snapdragon 8 Super Elite with CPU clocks above 5GHz. Techtember is treating Extreme Gen 6 as the Summit naming and noting Super Elite as alternate China wording until Xiaomi’s final retail copy settles.

The headline software and design pitch is what Xiaomi calls an AI Versatile Back Screen (also rendered as a Changeable or “bai bian” rear display in Chinese materials). Powered by Xiaomi’s MiMo model, the rear panel is framed as an independent AI portal rather than a decorative secondary screen. Launch-day summaries describe AI-generated interactive widgets, about 100 preloaded high-frequency application cards, dynamic avatar pets, and a back-screen app store open to third-party developers.

Both phones run HyperOS 4 (Pengpai OS 4). Xiaomi positions the series as the first handsets to ship that software. The front panel is a Super Pixel 2.0 stack with Xiaomi’s M11 light-emitting system, claimed peak brightness around 4,000 nits, and bezels listed at 0.99 millimeters. Pre-launch materials also confirmed a hardware-level privacy display and Black, Galaxy Blue, and White finishes.

Camera hardware is built around dual 200-megapixel Leica sensors: a large-sensor main camera (about 1/1.28-inch in secondary reports) and a 200MP periscope telephoto (about 1/1.56-inch, 75mm class, f/2.4, 3.2x optical zoom, close focus from roughly 12cm). A 50MP ultrawide appears in launch-day spec tables but is less firmly detailed in Xiaomi’s own Summit remarks. Xiaomi says light intake on the Pro telephoto rises nearly threefold versus the prior generation.

Batteries use Xiaomi’s Jinsha River silicon-carbon chemistry with 32 percent silicon content. Capacity is 7,000mAh on the 18 Pro and 8,500mAh on the 18 Pro Max. Launch-day secondary coverage widely lists 100W wired and 50W wireless charging for both models. Those charging figures were still treated as expected in some pre-event roundups, so buyers should match the box sticker and Xiaomi store pages before treating them as final.

China starting prices of 6,999 yuan for the 18 Pro and 7,999 yuan for the 18 Pro Max circulated in secondary launch coverage and pre-event forecasts. Lu Weibing had already said the series would cost more than the 17 Pro generation while arguing the hike would feel reasonable. Global availability is planned later in 2026. India and other markets have not locked local prices.
