CHICAGO - Universal Robots, the Teradyne Robotics collaborative-robot maker, introduced Gen 7, its seventh-generation industrial platform, at the IMTS tradeshow, pitching an end-to-end redesign meant to move factory AI from lab demos into day-to-day production cells.

The platform is anchored by the PolyScope X operating system and adds three g-Series arms - the UR10g-1750, UR17g-1300 and UR18g-950, named for payload in kilograms and reach in millimeters - joining the existing e-Series and UR Series lineup. A new tool flange carries data, power and safety to cameras and sensors, with built-in force-torque sensing, impedance control and Real-Time Data Exchange for force-sensitive work.

The CB7 Core controller offers 40 percent more compute in a 30 percent smaller footprint than prior generations and can connect to PLCs, HMIs, MES systems, industrial PCs and vision hardware without extra switches. A TP7 Core teach pendant is more than 20 percent lighter, with a full-HD display and a virtual joystick. An SP7 Smart Panel at the flange adds freedrive controls and configurable buttons.

“The robots of the AI era must be advanced, not complicated,” said Jean-Pierre Hathout, president of the Teradyne Robotics Group, in the company’s announcement. Universal Robots said g-Series robots are TÜV certified to ISO 10218-1 and UL1740, and that Gen 7 is on display at IMTS with more than 20 ecosystem partners.
