iPadOS 27 Rolls Out With Siri AI on Compatible iPads

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Apple began rolling out iPadOS 27 on Monday as a free update, putting the rebuilt Siri AI assistant on compatible iPads the same day iOS 27 arrived on iPhone and pairing the software with the company’s existing iPad Pro lineup and Magic Keyboard.

Apple confirmed the Sept. 14 date at its Sept. 9 “Surprise and Shine” event. The company said iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27 were timed with iOS 27. The tablet update is available through Settings → General → Software Update on supported models, including iPad Pro with M4 or later, recent iPad Air and iPad mini generations, and the A16 iPad.

Siri AI is the headline change. Apple describes a ChatGPT-like assistant with a dedicated Siri app, on-screen awareness and deeper personal context stored on the device. Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI, remain limited to newer iPads with enough unified memory; older hardware on the compatibility list keeps the classic Siri experience. At launch, Siri AI is an English-language beta subject to usage limits, with additional languages expected later in the fall, according to Apple’s published roadmap.

Beyond the assistant, Apple said Liquid Glass is refined across the iPad interface and that everyday tasks - app launches, Photos library loading and wireless transfers - are faster. The software lands as iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders continue and a month before iPhone Duo goes on sale Oct. 23. For iPad owners, Monday’s download is the first tangible piece of Apple’s fall software stack on the larger screen.
