SEOUL - Did you know that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra carries a typical 5,000mAh silicon-carbon battery inside a foldable that measures about 4.1mm thick when unfolded, and that European energy-label data rates the new Fold8 family for 1,200 charge cycles to 80% capacity? The Ultra’s pack sits above the standard Fold8 at about 4,800mAh, while the Flip8 holds 4,300mAh, matching Flip7 capacity in a thinner clamshell. Reporting compiled by Runtime Chronicle and Mega Mobile Content, citing Samsung’s engineering briefings and EU label filings, frames the trio as the first Galaxy phones to ship silicon-carbon anodes.

Samsung says swapping graphite for silicon-carbon was not a drop-in change. Electrolyte chemistry, separators, cell structure, expansion control, and thermal behavior all had to be redesigned around a more reactive anode. The company has not published the silicon percentage in the cells. On packaging, Samsung also cites about a 10% thinner display support structure on the new Flip, freeing volume for battery and cooling even when nominal capacity stays flat.

Charging changed with the chemistry. Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra use a dual-path charging architecture meant to spread power and manage heat. Samsung rates the Fold8 Ultra for about 45W wired charging and says it can reach roughly 67% in 30 minutes under its specified test conditions. The Flip8 uses a different layout tuned for the clamshell.
The endurance numbers look stronger than last generation even as the cycle rating falls. Tom’s Guide battery tests cited by Runtime Chronicle put the Fold8 Ultra at about 14 hours 9 minutes, the Fold8 at about 12 hours 20 minutes, and the Fold7 at about 10 hours 44 minutes. Those gains also reflect processor, display, and software efficiency, not chemistry alone. The 1,200-cycle EU label (down from 2,000 on Fold7 and Flip7 under the same framework) is the clear trade-off readers should weigh beside the thinner Ultra and larger pack.

Prefer measured claims over marketing absolutism: 5,000mAh typical in a 4.1mm open Fold8 Ultra, first Galaxy silicon-carbon foldables, dual-path charging with Samsung’s 45W / about 67% in 30 minutes Ultra figures, and a 1,200-cycle energy label, as reported from Samsung product materials and secondary coverage on Runtime Chronicle and Mega Mobile Content around September 2026.
