ZHUHAI, China - Oppo unveiled ColorOS 17, its Android 17-based system software, on Wednesday at the company’s developer conference here, pairing a new Fluid Design with AI photography tools, and saying a China stable rollout begins Oct. 8.
ColorOS 17 introduces Fluid Design with luminous visuals, connected animations, Polar Light Engine, and more responsive haptic feedback. Oppo claims Polar Light Engine can cut application start-up and runtime memory use by about 25 percent and lower rendering workload by about 30 percent. The company also says its Tidal Engine, which personalizes resource scheduling, improves background application retention stability by about 55.6 percent, with further claims of about 50 percent faster third-party scrolling and loading, about 30 percent faster mini-program start-up, and about 15 percent faster app switching. Oppo says supported devices can stay smooth for up to six years.

On photography, ColorOS 17 adds an AI Photo Editor that Oppo says can remove unwanted background objects, reduce motion blur, and adjust color and tone, plus native 2K ProXDR imaging support. Reference Image Replication applies the look of a reference photo to another image. The Da Vinci Visual Understanding Model, according to the company, uses six specialized models covering light and shadow, image quality, composition, color, portraits, and image elements.
AI Notes has been redesigned with an information overview, one-tap sharing, “Inspiration Moment” cards, and support for simultaneous audio recording, note-taking, and photography. Oppo also introduced an AI Assistant Ball accessory that weighs about 9.8 grams and is rated for about 24 hours of use: a short press shows key information, and a long press lets users ask questions. Other additions include Smart Screen Reading, AI anti-fraud protection that Oppo says uses personalized behavior modeling, Care Mode for one-tap accessibility and safety settings, and Xiaobu AI lifestyle, space, suggestions, call, and memory features.

Oppo had already said Realme UI is being discontinued. Eligible Realme phones are set to receive ColorOS 17 rather than a Realme UI 8 update. The first devices to ship with ColorOS 17 are the Oppo Find X10 series, OnePlus 16, and Oppo Watch S2.

China’s stable update wave begins Oct. 8 for flagships including the Find N6 and Find X9 Ultra/Pro family, OnePlus 15 and Realme GT8 Pro, with further waves through late October, November, December, and the first quarter of 2027 listed in coverage from The Tech Outlook. Oppo has not announced a global rollout schedule.
