Googlebooks Open Preorders: Five Premium Models From $899, Shelves Oct. 4

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Google on Sept. 21, 2026, opened preorders for five OEM Googlebook laptops starting at $899, positioning the Android-powered machines as a premium laptop category distinct from Chromebooks, with U.S. shelves set for Oct. 4 and a one-day later debut in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia.

The lineup is built with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo rather than as first-party Pixel hardware. Google’s blog post and a same-day Ars Technica rundown describe fanless designs with NPUs rated above 45 TOPS, a baseline of 16GB of RAM (some configurations to 32GB), and claimed battery life of up to 14 hours of video playback or 16 hours of web browsing. Googlebook OS is promised feature drops and updates for up to 10 years.

Model sheet details published with the launch put Acer’s Googlebook 14 at the entry price of $899. It is the only convertible in the five-pack, with Intel Core Ultra 5/7 Panther Lake options, a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touch panel, 16GB of memory, and a listed weight of about 2.7 pounds. Dell’s XPS Googlebook starts at $1,199 with Snapdragon X Elite, a 13.4-inch 2.5K touch display, and 16GB to 32GB of RAM. HP’s Googlebook 14 opens at $1,299 with Snapdragon X Elite and a 14-inch 2.8K OLED. Lenovo’s Googlebook 15 is also $1,299, pairing Intel Core Ultra 5 with a 15.3-inch 2.8K OLED and a magnesium-plus-carbon-fiber chassis. Asus’s Googlebook 14, likewise $1,299, offers Intel Core Ultra 5/7, a 14-inch 3K OLED, and a listed 2.2-pound weight that makes it the lightest of the set.

Hardware cues are meant to mark the machines as premium rather than budget Chromebook cousins: aluminum, magnesium, or carbon-fiber builds; bright OLED or high-resolution touchscreens; haptic trackpads; and the Glowbar light strip on the lid that Google says can signal boot, battery level, and later developer-driven patterns. Software features called out for launch include Magic Pointer, which invokes Gemini from cursor context; Rambler voice dictation carried over from Pixel phones; native Android apps from the Play Store; Cast My Apps to run phone apps on the laptop; and Continue On to resume supported phone sessions on the larger screen.

Every purchase includes 12 months of Google AI Pro, which Google frames as 5TB of Drive storage plus Gemini Advanced. Google’s blog also lists additional perks such as periods of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop access. Ars Technica separately notes a year of GeForce Now game streaming across the models. Preorders are live on the Google Store, Best Buy, and select retailers.

The commercial bet is explicit. Chromebooks remain Google’s lower-cost laptop franchise. Googlebooks are priced into the MacBook Air and premium Windows band and depend on Android apps scaling to desktop-class use. Independent hands-on reviews are not yet public; Google and its OEM partners have not broadly circulated review units ahead of the Oct. 4 U.S. in-store date.
