Acer Unveils Repairable Vero 16 Copilot+ Laptop at IFA Berlin

Acer introduced the Vero 16 at IFA, a 16-inch Copilot+ laptop built around tool-free repair and recycled materials.

BERLIN - Acer introduced the Vero 16 at IFA, pitching a 16-inch Windows 11 Copilot+ laptop built around tool-free repair access, replaceable parts and recycled chassis materials rather than a disposable upgrade cycle.

The notebook, models V16-I71 and V16-I71T, adds a latch that opens the bottom cover without tools so users can swap the battery and SSD themselves. Removable I/O port covers on both sides and a detachable external hinge are meant to simplify servicing, and Acer said the design supports processor upgrades for at least two generations - work The Verge reported would be handled through Acer service centers, not as a user DIY kit. Engraved on-chassis repair guidance is included to walk owners through common steps.

On materials, Acer said the top and palm-rest covers combine 50 percent post-industrial recycled aluminum with 50 percent low-carbon aluminum produced using hydropower, while the bottom cover uses 60 percent post-consumer recycled plastic. The MIL-STD-810H-certified chassis gets a solvent-free powder coat intended to cut VOC emissions versus conventional paint, and packaging is described as 100 percent recyclable.

Performance configs reach an Intel Core Ultra X9 388H with up to 180 platform TOPS, up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to a 512 GB SSD, paired with a 71 Wh battery. Display options include a 16-inch 3K OLED WQXGA+ panel at 120 Hz alongside WUXGA OLED variants, one with touch. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi 7, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI 2.1, USB-A and an SD card reader. As a Copilot+ PC, the machine includes on-device Windows AI features plus Acer PurifiedView and PurifiedVoice tools. Acer plans EMEA availability in the first quarter of 2027; exact specifications and prices will vary by region, the company said.
