DONGGUAN, China - vivo has put the Y600 on sale for pre-order in China, a mid-range phone built around a 10,000mAh battery that the company says earned a Guinness World Records title. Prices start at 1,999 yuan, about $280, and open sales begin Oct. 30, GSMArena reported.

The record is the headline. According to vivo’s product page, the Y600 completed a 32 hour, 37 minute continuous livestream test, the longest such test for a phone, to claim the Guinness title. vivo also says it is the first product to receive a two-day battery life certificate from the China Quality Certification Centre, which it sums up as charging once every two days.
The battery uses what vivo calls its fourth-generation silicon anode technology, with an energy density of 859 watt-hours per liter, and a second-generation semi-solid battery design. vivo says the cell keeps working from minus 35 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius, and that it retains at least 80 percent of its capacity after 1,400 full charge cycles in lab testing, which the company equates to about seven years of use. Charging tops out at 44 watts over USB-C, and the phone can also charge other devices through the same port.

The rest of the phone is built for the long haul rather than for speed. It has a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen with a 2,800 by 1,260 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, and runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300e with LPDDR4X memory and UFS 3.1 storage, Gizmochina reported. There is a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel selfie camera, an in-display fingerprint reader, NFC and an infrared blaster for controlling home appliances. The phone weighs 224 or 225 grams depending on the color and runs vivo’s OriginOS 6.

vivo is also pitching durability. Its site lists IP68 and IP69 water resistance, drop protection on 12 kinds of surfaces from one meter, and a set of military-standard environmental tests covering drops, rain, salt spray and heat. The company says the screen keeps working with wet or oily hands.
The Y600 comes in Sapphire Blue, Diamond Gold and Obsidian Black. The 6GB and 128GB model costs 1,999 yuan, the 8GB and 128GB model 2,099 yuan, the 6GB and 256GB model 2,199 yuan and the 8GB and 256GB model 2,499 yuan.

Buyers outside China may recognize the phone. GSMArena said the Y600’s specifications and design point to a rebranded version of the vivo S2 FE and the V80 Lite, which went on sale in the Philippines earlier this month with the same 10,000mAh battery. What is new in China is the price, and the record vivo is now putting on the box.
