Ultrahuman Smart Rings Add Free On-Demand Heart Rhythm Checks

Heart Scan, built with FibriCheck, lets Ring Air and Ring Pro owners run a 60-second spot check for signs of atrial fibrillation and send a PDF report to a doctor.

BENGALURU, India - Ultrahuman has added an on-demand heart rhythm check to its smart rings, letting owners test for signs of atrial fibrillation, or AFib, whenever something feels wrong instead of waiting for the ring’s overnight analysis. The feature, called Heart Scan, was built with the health software company FibriCheck and works on the Ultrahuman Ring Air and Ring Pro, Engadget, Digital Trends and Wareable reported on Wednesday.

A scan starts from the Ultrahuman app. The wearer sits still for 60 seconds while the ring’s optical sensors record the pulse, and FibriCheck’s algorithm, which carries a CE mark in Europe, analyzes the reading. Digital Trends reported that the result comes back as one of five outcomes: regular, possibly irregular, possible atrial fibrillation, signal quality too low or inconclusive.

Each scan also produces a PDF report meant for a doctor. According to Wareable, it includes the raw pulse trace, a tachogram and a Lorenz plot of the intervals between beats, so a clinician can see the recording itself rather than a patient’s description of a moment that has passed.

Wareable and Digital Trends reported that Heart Scan is free for eligible ring owners. It is available in 37 markets, Wareable said, including Britain, the European Union, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Australia. It requires version 4.3.0 of the Ultrahuman app on iOS or 3.2.0.0 on Android.

The new check builds on an older one. Ultrahuman’s AFib Detection PowerPlug, an add-on introduced in 2024, samples heart rhythm passively while the wearer sleeps. That continuous screening remains a paid add-on, at 4.90 pounds a month or 49 pounds a year in Britain and 5.90 euros a month or 49 euros a year in the eurozone. Engadget reported that Heart Scan is being folded into the PowerPlug, so existing subscribers will not pay more.

The limits matter. Heart Scan cannot detect a heart attack, and a regular result does not mean the heart is healthy, Digital Trends reported. Sudden or severe symptoms still call for urgent medical care. About 52.6 million people worldwide are estimated to have AFib, many without knowing it, because episodes can be brief or produce no symptoms at all.
