Siri AI Now Remembers What It Told You and Speaks Five More Languages

Apple's 27.2 updates give the rebuilt assistant conversation recall, more personal context and support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Europe still has to wait.

CUPERTINO, Calif. - A month after Apple shipped its rebuilt assistant, Siri AI is getting a memory. With iOS 27.2 and the matching updates for iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro, released on Monday, Siri AI can recall earlier conversations, so you can ask about a restaurant it recommended last week without starting over. It also now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, the first expansion beyond English.

Apple describes Siri AI as “an entirely new version of Siri that is profoundly more capable, conversational, and personal,” built on Apple Intelligence. In its Newsroom post, the company said the assistant draws on personal context across messages, emails and photos, takes actions inside apps, understands what is on screen and pulls up-to-date information from the web. Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are due by the end of the year.

The memory upgrade is the bigger change for people who already use it. According to 9to5Mac, Siri AI can now tap more personal sources for its answers, including photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees and voicemails, and it returns better results from Safari history and Reading List. MacRumors reported a redesigned Excluded Apps setting that lets users pick, in one place, which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can read, replacing a control that required excluding apps one by one. You can also now select and copy just part of a Siri response. On Apple Watch, Apple says Siri AI answers faster in watchOS 27.2.

The fine print matters. Siri AI is still labeled beta and needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later. It remains unavailable in the European Union on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and Apple said it is “working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward.” MacRumors noted it is also not available in mainland China. Users under 13 cannot use it. Apple also said features that rely on its server-side models, Siri AI included, are subject to daily usage limits, and that “expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future.” Apple has not said what that will cost.

The same release quietly adds a safeguard on the image side. Images made with Image Playground, and Photos edits that use Extend, Reframe or large Clean Up changes, now carry Google’s SynthID watermark, which is embedded in the pixels rather than the metadata, MacRumors reported. There is no detector on the iPhone itself. Anyone who wants to check an image can upload it to Google’s SynthID Detector website.

For Apple, the pace is the story. Siri AI only arrived last month with iOS 27, and the first big update already adds memory, five languages and provenance labels. With OpenAI, Google and Anthropic shipping new models every few weeks, Apple appears to have accepted that its assistant has to move on the same clock.
