SAN FRANCISCO - The first Windows laptops built on Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip went up for preorder on Wednesday, and the price tags show who they are meant for. Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo and MSI posted prices and dates alongside Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra, with entry models starting at about $2,599 and a fully loaded Asus machine listed at $6,999.99.
Most of the machines are due on Oct. 16. Tom’s Hardware reported that preorders went live on Wednesday from Asus, Microsoft, Lenovo, HP and Dell, and that Best Buy is carrying a limited first lineup topping out at 64 gigabytes of unified memory. Buyers who want the chip’s maximum of 128 gigabytes have to look elsewhere, mostly at the manufacturers’ own stores.
The pitch is local artificial intelligence. RTX Spark pairs an Nvidia Grace processor with a Blackwell RTX graphics chip that share one pool of memory, so large AI models can run on the laptop instead of in a data center. The Verge noted that the starting configurations, with an 18-core processor, 24 gigabytes of memory and 512 gigabytes of storage, cost about the same as a similarly specified 14-inch MacBook Pro with Apple’s M5 Pro chip, although Apple includes a terabyte of storage.

Asus has the cheapest way in. Its ProArt P14 starts at $2,599.99 and the ProArt P16 at $2,799.99, both with 24 gigabytes of memory and 512 gigabytes of storage, according to Best Buy listings cited by The Gadgeteer. Asus said global preorders began Oct. 7 and the first units arrive in the United States on Oct. 16. The company says the P16, at 12.9 millimeters and 1.77 kilograms, is the thinnest 16-inch ProArt laptop it has made, while the 1.48-kilogram P14 is the lightest ProArt laptop on sale. Both use Asus OLED screens that reach up to 1,600 nits at peak. A P16 with a 20-core processor, 128 gigabytes of memory and 2 terabytes of storage costs $6,999.99 on the Asus store.

Dell’s entry is the XPS 16 Creator Edition, the first XPS laptop to use the chip. Dell says it is 17.8 millimeters thin and has a 3.2K tandem OLED display that reaches 1,000 nits at peak, along with a full-size SD card reader, three USB4 ports and HDMI 2.1b. It went up for preorder at Best Buy on Wednesday, with Dell.com to follow. Windows Central reported a starting price of $3,799.99 and an expected ship date of Oct. 16.

Lenovo’s Yoga 9n 2-in-1, a 16-inch convertible that folds back 360 degrees and takes pen input, starts at $3,099.99 and is expected on Oct. 16, Windows Central reported. MSI’s Prestige N16 Flip AI+, another convertible, starts at $3,299.99, with preorders that appeared set to open on Thursday, according to the same report.

HP said its OmniBook X 14 starts at $2,999.99 and the larger OmniBook Ultra 16 at $3,199.99, and that both are expected on HP.com on Oct. 16. Tom’s Hardware found 128-gigabyte versions of the two models on HP’s store at $5,109 and $5,309, well below the top Asus price.
Shoppers should read the fine print. Tom’s Hardware reported that RTX Spark comes in two versions: a full chip with a 20-core Grace processor and a 6,144-core Blackwell graphics processor, and a smaller one with 18 processor cores and 5,120 graphics cores. Listings call both “RTX Spark N1X,” and the configurations it found with 24 or 32 gigabytes of memory used the smaller chip, while those with 48 gigabytes or more had the full one.

The launch was the centerpiece of Microsoft’s Windows and Surface event here, where Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s chief executive, and Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s chief executive, described how the two companies are building hardware and software for AI agents that run on Windows PCs, according to Nvidia. Whether the machines are worth their prices will become clearer once reviewers get them. The Verge noted that rising memory prices are not helping.
