Nvidia Says the RTX 5090 Is Not Discontinued, but Admits Supply Is Tight
Senior vice president Jeff Fisher rejected end-of-life reports at the RTX Spark launch party in Taipei. The flagship GeForce card is still missing from Nvidia's own store, and third-party listings run far above its $1,999 list price.

TAIPEI - Nvidia has denied that its GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card is being discontinued. Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of the company’s personal computing business, told Taiwanese media on Friday at the RTX Spark launch party in Taipei that the reports were not true, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency and the gaming site 4Gamers.
“The supply chain (capacity) is indeed somewhat constrained, but NVIDIA is going all out to bring products to market,” Fisher said, according to TechPowerUp’s translation of the 4Gamers report. “Although there are other variants of the RTX 5090 (chip), it has definitely not been discontinued. NVIDIA will continue to ship it, and this is very important.”
The Central News Agency reported that Fisher was in Taiwan for a party marking the on-sale date of PCs built on Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip, held alongside events in Berlin, Seoul, San Francisco, Istanbul and Beijing. Asked about social media talk that the RTX 5090 was reaching end of life, he said it was not true and called the card a super important part of the lineup. He said the supply crunch was not unique to Nvidia but a constraint across the global industry. He also argued that GeForce built the company: GeForce led to CUDA, and CUDA led to the AI market.

The denial follows more than a week of reports. Leakers claimed earlier this month that Nvidia had stopped allocating its GB202 chip to the RTX 5090, and BenchLife later reported that board partners were no longer receiving GB202 for the card, TechPowerUp said. German outlet PC Games Hardware reported that sources across retail, distribution and Nvidia’s partner network had confirmed an end to new GB202 allocations for GeForce cards, according to Notebookcheck.

Fisher did not explain what he meant by other variants. TechPowerUp noted that GB202 also powers workstation cards such as the RTX PRO 6000 and RTX PRO 5500, and that his comments did not say whether partners are receiving fresh GB202 supply again.
Store shelves tell a harder story. In a check published Saturday, Tom’s Hardware found the card still absent from Nvidia’s own marketplace and from Micro Center. It found third-party Amazon listings at about $8,500, Newegg listings at about $7,300 from what appeared to be overseas sellers, and no cards on offer at Best Buy. Micro Center had earlier switched several models to “Not Carried,” Notebookcheck reported. The card’s list price is $1,999.

The timing is awkward. Nvidia spent the same week celebrating RTX Spark laptops, which Techtember covered when they went on sale worldwide. For PC gamers who want the fastest GeForce desktop card, the official word is that the RTX 5090 lives on. Finding one anywhere near list price is another matter.
