BURLINGTON, Mass., Keurig opened preorders on Oct. 2, 2026, for the Alta, a $499.99 single-serve coffee and espresso machine built around plastic-free AltaRounds instead of traditional K-Cups. The early-access bundle ships starting Oct. 21 and pairs the brewer with AltaRounds cartons plus glassware. Keurig frames Alta as the next chapter of its single-serve line while saying familiar K-Cups remain available for years to come.

AltaRounds are pressed coffee discs wrapped in a plant-based coating that includes alginate from seaweed. The whole puck, coffee plus coating, is certified for home and commercial composting. Cartons use SFI-certified paperboard. The Verge notes the rounds still ship in plastic wrappers for freshness today, with Keurig working toward paper wraps. At launch, six Keurig Alta Coffee & Espresso varieties cover light, medium, and dark roasts plus espresso singles and doubles and a caramel flavored option. Peet’s Coffee AltaRounds and more brands are promised later.

Each round carries a QR-style brew code the Alta reads to set pressure, temperature, and recipe, so drinkers do not need a grinder or tamper. Hot water pushes through the puck after an array of spikes punctures it. A built-in milk frother supports lattes and cappuccinos, and a color touchscreen walks through drink recipes. The machine is Wi-Fi connected so new round varieties can unlock more recipes over time. TechRadar confirms the Alta stays backward-compatible with K-Cups when a favorite blend is not yet in AltaRound form.

Color options include graphite, sandstone, and sandstone mixed with a satin stainless gray finish. The U.S. early-access bundle at $499.99, available direct from Keurig through Oct. 15 while supplies last, includes the brewer, four boxes of AltaRounds pressed coffee, and glassware made with Ethan Rode of FLUR. Approximate foreign equivalents land near £380 / AU$720, but the bundle is U.S.-only at launch.
