Apple's $79 iPhone Duo Case Uses Adhesive Strips, Not Magnets
Early buyers say the polycarbonate case sticks on with peel-off adhesive on both halves. The $129 Folio with Kickstand is the magnetic option.

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Apple’s official $79 iPhone Duo Case does not snap on with MagSafe-style magnets. It sticks on. MacRumors, 9to5Mac and GSMArena report that early buyers who picked up the polycarbonate case in stores found peel-off adhesive strips along the inside edges of both halves, plus an insert that tells owners to press each side down until it holds.
Parker Ortolani, who photographed both official Duo accessories after pre-orders opened, posted that the silicone-feel case “has the adhesive stickers like other foldables,” then shared close-ups of the strips on both sides. In follow-up replies he said he had peeled the film back: the edges are adhesive, with alignment magnets as well.
The case comes in Sand and Navy Blue. It covers the camera bump on the back and the outer display bezel, with a cutout for the front screen and no protection for the inner display when the Duo is unfolded. Swapping cases or going caseless later will be messier than with a magnetic shell, which is the complaint running through MacRumors’ comment threads and 9to5Mac’s PSA.
Apple’s other first-party option, the $129 iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand, attaches magnetically and folds back when the outer display is needed. Ortolani called the Folio the nicer of the two, citing metal hinges under the kickstand. It does not wrap the sides the way the adhesive case does, and it covers the front display while closed.
Duo handsets themselves are still days from customer delivery after pre-orders opened, but the cases were already on shelves. For buyers who want a wraparound shell rather than a folio, Apple’s answer is adhesive, the same compromise several Android foldable cases have used when magnets alone were not enough.
