Huawei's Pura 90 Plus Shows Up in Stores Running an Unannounced Kirin 9025 Chip, Days Before Launch

SHENZHEN, China - Huawei has not said what powers the Pura 90 Plus, but its own stores have. Display units of the phone, already out on tables in Huawei retail stores in China, list a Kirin 9025 processor on their About phone screens, along with 12GB of memory, a 2,848 by 1,276 screen resolution, HarmonyOS 7 and the model number LCI-AL00, GSMArena reported. Huawei Central said the units make the Plus the first phone to ship with the chip, and IT Home listed the software build as HarmonyOS 7.0.0.105.

What the Kirin 9025 actually is remains unclear. One tipster has described it as an overclocked version of the Kirin 9020 used in last year’s Pura 80 Pro, and another claims the Plus is about 19 percent faster overall than that phone and roughly on par with the Kirin 9030S in the Pura 90 Pro and Pro Max. Huawei has confirmed none of this, and benchmarks will have to settle it.

Huawei opened reservations on Oct. 23 at 10:08 a.m. Beijing time through Vmall, its online store, and it is asking for a 200-yuan deposit before the launch event at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 28, Yuphora reported, with the balance due by 2:30 p.m. the next day. The phone comes in Obsidian Black, Snowy White, Sunset Purple and Dawn Gold, all with 12GB of memory. Black and white are offered only with 512GB of storage, while purple and gold come with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB, according to EE Times China. Huawei will also show its Enjoy 100 series at the same event.

The store units show a design that breaks slightly from the rest of the range. The Plus keeps the triangular camera island of the Pura 90 family but has curved sides, unlike the flatter frames of the other Pura 90 models, and EE Times China described a 6.8-inch display curved on both edges. Leaks point to a 1.5K LTPO OLED panel at 120Hz and a 50-megapixel main camera with a 1-inch-type RYYB sensor and a variable aperture. Huawei has not confirmed those details either. The Pura 90 started at 4,699 yuan and the Pura 90 Pro at 5,499 yuan when the series launched in April, and the Plus’s price, along with its full specifications, will be announced on Oct. 28.
