BELLEVUE, Wash. - Did you know that winning Valve’s Steam Frame reservation lottery is not the same as owning the headset? After signup closes Thursday, Sept. 17, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific, Valve randomizes entries, emails results the same day, and begins sending purchase invitations on Sept. 18. Anyone who receives a buy offer then has exactly 72 hours to check out before the reservation is canceled and the next person in line gets the chance, according to Valve’s reservation FAQ and launch coverage from The Verge and Game Informer.

The hardware itself sits at a premium: $1,059 for the 256GB kit and $1,299 for 1TB. Both kits include the headset, Steam Frame Controllers, a Wi-Fi 6E wireless adapter, and a copy of Half-Life: Alyx. A power supply is sold separately. Eligibility requires a Steam account with a purchase before April 27, 2026, and Valve limits signups to one per household, checking payment and shipping details to cut duplicates.

The detail matters for readers chasing the first batch. A lottery win is a timed checkout window, not a held inventory claim that waits on you. Miss the 72 hours and the queue moves on.
