SEATTLE - Amazon introduced five new Alexa devices on Wednesday, led by a redesigned Echo Show 16 smart display and two new kinds of product for the company: Echo Time, a bedside clock, and the Alexa Photo Frame, which Amazon says is the first photo frame with Alexa built in. A new Echo Dot and an Echo Studio speaker with a camera round out the lineup, according to Amazon’s announcement. Everything except the Echo Show 16 is available to buy now, and the Show 16 is open for preorder ahead of a Dec. 16 release, The Verge reported.

The Echo Show 16 is the most expensive of the group. It starts at $499.99, or $569.99 with a Nanomatte screen, and Amazon is taking $100 off for preorders. The 16-inch full HD display has 10 percent more viewing area than the Echo Show 15, and the anodized aluminum frame is nearly 40 percent thinner. Amazon says the Nanomatte version etches a texture into the glass that cuts glare by more than 90 percent. The display has eight micro woofers and two tweeters, the full Fire TV experience with a remote in the box. Amazon says it has 20 percent more computing power.

The camera gets the biggest upgrade. It is a new 13-megapixel wide-angle unit with the widest field of view Amazon has put on an Echo Show, and for the first time on the line it adds night vision for checking in on a room through Live View. Amazon says it more than doubled the range of Visual ID, which lets Alexa recognize people in the room, from eight feet to up to 17 feet. Echo Show is Amazon’s fastest-growing Echo line, up more than 25 percent from a year earlier, the company said.

Echo Time costs $199.99 in Graphite, Glacier White and Coral Pink, with a matching stand for $39.99. It has no camera. Amazon says its Omnisense sleep sensing can tell when the sleeper is in a lighter stage of sleep and wake them within 10 to 60 minutes of a scheduled alarm, with no wearable required, while the screen brightens like a sunrise and the alarm tone builds gradually. The clock carries the National Sleep Foundation’s SleepMark. A Kids version starts at $209.99 with a year of Amazon Kids+.

The Alexa Photo Frame starts at $199.99 in black and costs $229 in birch or walnut wood. It has a 10-inch anti-glare touchscreen and pulls pictures from Amazon Photos, which includes unlimited photo storage for Prime members. Amazon says Alexa+ chooses which pictures to show based on faces, time and sentiment, skips screenshots and receipts, and lets owners attach voice notes to photos. Panos Panay, who runs Amazon’s devices business, called it “the world’s smartest photo frame,” and The Verge noted that it also works as a full Alexa speaker. Each frame includes 90 days of Alexa+.

The speakers are cheaper updates. The new Echo Dot costs $99.99 and, for the first time, includes a built-in smart home hub and an eero Wi-Fi extender that Amazon says adds up to 1,000 square feet of coverage. It runs on Amazon’s AZ3 chip with an AI accelerator for on-device processing and produces 50 percent more bass than the previous model, according to the company. Kids versions cost $109.99.

Echo Studio with Home Camera costs $249.99, $30 more than the standard Echo Studio at $219.99. The camera lets Alexa see what is in front of it, so it can explain the rules on a board game box held up to the speaker or recognize a cereal box to reorder it. Amazon says owners will soon be able to pair it with compatible Fire TVs for video calls on the TV. The company also redesigned its Alexa Home Map as an interactive 3D view of the home, which The Verge said will start rolling out in preview later this year. Some features on all five devices require Alexa+, which is included with a Prime membership.
